ADDRESS AT THE PRESENTATION OF SILVER TRUMPET AND TRUMPET BANNER TO THE PRESIDENT'S BODY GUARD
02-12-2005 : New Delhi
I am delighted to participate in the presentation ceremony of the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet banner to the President's Body Guard. I consider myself privileged to arrive at this function in a Buggy today. It was always a desire for me to reach the Republic Day Parade or the Combined Session of Parliament in a Buggy. This journey is beautiful as we remember our traditions. My greetings to the Commandant, Officers, JCOs and other ranks of the PBG. I am glad to know that the past Commandants, Officers, JCOs and other ranks who had served the PBG earlier are witnessing today's function. My special greetings to them.
PBG has a long history right from the year 1773 and it was named as the President's Body Guard on the 26 Jan 1950. Today, I was happy to present the 10th Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President's Body Guard. I have personally seen the performance of PBG in all the state functions, investiture ceremonies, State Banquets where foreign dignitaries had been our guests. Many of the Heads of State had appreciated the quality and the maintenance of the horses and the synchronization of the parade. I congratulate the PBG for their excellent military traditions, professionalism and discipline in all their tasks.
I understand that PBG is the senior most unit of the Indian Army and hence takes precedence over all other regiments. This seniority of the PBG and its performance makes them to be an ideal role model for other regiments to follow. I am fully aware of the rigour and the hardwork being put by all ranks of PBG in performing their tasks.
The nation is proud of you and in appreciation of your services, I am delighted to present the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner. I would emphasize that this honour bestowed upon you carries with it added responsibilities. The professionalism now expected of you will be more than ever before. I am confident that you will strive with dedication, discipline and valour to maintain the best traditions of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
I congratulate you on your remarkable turnout, bearing and steadfastness on parade especially your maintenance of the horses and the ceremonial attire of the President's Body Guard. I wish you success in all your missions. My greetings to you and your families on this occasion.
May God bless you.
